Wonderland

The vertical format photographs in the “Wonderland” series create a very unique view of our contemporary world by tearing what is depicted out of real contexts and thus challenging the viewer’s imagination. As a result, the sequencing of the images does not create a linear narrative, but rather a montage of fragments of reality that are associatively linked together. The images in the

book design use varying formats to create an image rhythm that allows photographs from different countries and different thematic contexts to interact in such a way that a stream of consciousness is created that is almost impossible to escape. My approach to the photographic perception of the world around me is to marvel at wondrous and often grotesque objects and moments of everyday life. I have the feeling that I am moving in a wonderland.

I took the pictures from the late 1980s to 2013 on various occasions in the context of leisure culture and tourism. They were taken at Kernwasser Wunderland Kalkar, at the State Garden Show in Leverkusen, at Expo 2000 in Hanover, during the Pope’s visit and the c/o Pop music festival in Cologne, in Xanten Archaeological Park, on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Hollywood, at the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution in Paris, in Florence, Gothenburg, London, Madrid and Beijing.
